Research on Studio 4C
One of my favorite anime studios over in Japan. Their cast of directors is various, in animation projects; that's overwhelming, thus the product of innovation and creativity from movies, animated shorts, music videos, commercials, to even tv animated shows (ex: the new Transformers Anime).
Founded by Koji Morimoto, Eiko Tanaka, and Yoshiharu Sato in the mid '80s. They've worked on Ken Ishii's "extra," Ayumi Hamasaki's "Connected," Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit," Wacowski Brother's Animatrix, Utada Hikaru's Fluximation (an entire album condensed into video ringtones), The Bluetones "Four Day Weekend," Kayne West's "Good Morning," Spriggan, Tekkon Kinkreet, Memories, Mind Game, Nike's "Chamber of Fear," Honda's "Edix 6 - kiro,"
and Genius Party (just to name a few). I would say this studio is more known for its animated shorts: Memories, Digital Juice, Sweat Punch, Amazing Nuts, Animatrix, Genius Party, Genius Party Beyond, and Ani*Kuri.
If you're looking for anime that isn't cheap animation, with an independent film feel, then I would highly recommend looking into this studio. And recently, Takeshi Murakami has been added to their cast of crew, so expect the superflat movement to intregrate in the commercial world.
